Matt's Info for Students during Stay at Home

UB Students, I know we're in the middle of something we've never experienced before.  I've directed you to this webpage, because I know you may have limited access to other methods of communication that we have used in the past.  First, if you need help with anything, please reach out to me.  My email address is, and my voice or text messaging line is 859 904-9336.  If I can help you with anything, please let me know.

Below are some topics that you may have questions about, or just want to know more about (I will updated these periodically)

Stipend Distribution

In order to be allowed to do Stipend Distribution we must follow all rules posted below.  I will be in a 2016 Blue Honda Pilot with MSU plates on the back and a decorative MSU plate on the front.

Here are the dates and times:
  • Rowan County’s outside our offices on Monday, April 20th from 12:30-1 pm.
  • Mason County’s in Dunham’s parking lot near Burger King on Tuesday, April 21st from 11-11:30 am.
  • Fleming County’s in McDonald’s parking lot on Tuesday, April 21st from 12:45-1:15 pm.
Here are the rules we must follow:
  1. Only the student can sign for money.
  2. Each student will sign with a new pen provided by UB Staff.  These will be disinfected.
  3. I will stay in my car.  One student will approach at a time. and sign on my clipboard that will be outside the car.  Then I will hand the stipend outside the window in a very small “slit”.
  4. I will wear gloves.  Everything I bring will be disinfected.
  5. No contact between staff and student.  For your safety and theirs.
  6. Students who cannot make it will have their stipend mailed.  We’re only allowed to be there for 30 minutes.  We can’t wait.

Summer 2020

Are we still having a Summer Program?

Until we are told differently, we are still planning to have a summer program.  If we are not able to have it during the currently scheduled dates, we will look into having it later in the summer.  Once we know something, we will update you as soon as we know.

Summer Forms

Summer forms are still due April 9th, please visit Summer Forms & Documents for more information.  You can scan and email them to or  you can fax them to 606 783-9114.  There is not an option to drop them off due to closures, and at this point, it is probably too late to mail them to get them in on time.  If you're having trouble getting your forms to us on time, please let me know!

Roommate Sign Ups

Please visit the Roommate Sign Ups page to select your roommate.  This is happening from April 10-14.

Summer Classes

We are utilizing the website for class sign ups.

Morning Classes

During the time period of April 1 - April 19, we are asking students to complete the Morning Core Class form (please visit the website for this link).

Afternoon Classes

During the week time period of April 20 - April 26, we will have elective class sign ups.  Please visit the website for the appropriate day for you to sign up.  Juniors will sign up first (April 20), first year math-science students will sign up next (April 21), followed by sophomores (April 22), and then freshmen (April 23).  April 24-26 is for anyone who missed their sign up time.  If you have any questions, please visit the website first, and then send me an email if you have any questions.

It is important that you visit the website so you can become familiar with the process, as well as see the list of available elective classes.  If it is your current day to sign up, you will see your class (ex: junior, sophomore, etc.) at the top right of the page.

You will only complete an these class sign up forms, if you submitted your summer forms, and are intending to attend the summer program!

Career Work Study

We interviewed applicants for Career Work Study in March.  We have not released information about this yet because we are uncertain about what the summer will look like.  As soon as we know something, we will let you know.

All students are able to log into tutoring.  Please visit at the bottom of that page, you will learn your login information.  I know you have a lot of NTI work, and are likely not getting as much instruction as you normally would.  Please use this any time you need help, even if it's only for 5 minutes.

Weekly Zoom Meetings

We will have weekly Zoom Meetings at 11:00 am.  Please email Matt if you don't have this information.  This has been emailed to all students, and has been posted on our private Facebook group.  Do not share meeting information with anyone not a part of Upward Bound at Mason County.  This is to ensure privacy and to keep everyone safe during online video chats.

Monthly Items

Please visit at the beginning of each month, the Webinar page and the Newsletter page.  Please complete the webinar, and for the newsletter, please leave a comment on the Facebook group about something you learned, or email Matt the comment.
