Upward Bound Pre-College Diploma Requirements


The mission of the Upward Bound Pre-College program is to ensure that all students will graduate with the skills, motivation, curiosity and resilience to succeed in their choice of college and career in order to lead and participate in the society of tomorrow.


In order to receive the Upward Bound Pre-College diploma and be eligible for the Bridge Honors Scholarship, all students must meet all of the following requirements:



All students in grades 9-12 must complete at least 3 summer sessions with the program.


Grade-Point Average 

Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher during each academic period. Students falling below this average will be placed in our Upward Bound tutoring program and will need to meet additional requirements before this hold can be lifted. If a student is no longer in a class, they will still be placed in the tutoring program to ensure academic success in future coursework. This will be coordinated with the Tutoring and Records Counselor.



Students must maintain a record of responsible citizenship. Students wishing to participate in graduation ceremonies must meet all requirements set by the program in addition, to requirements asked of you by administrative staff.


Rigorous Course Curriculum

Students who are wishing to obtain the Pre-College diploma must meet rigorous core curriculum as outlined in  704 KAR 3:305 by the Kentucky Department of Education. This includes meeting all high school graduation requirements in addition to the completion of 1 full year of the same Foreign Language.


Assessment Requirements

Students must meet at least proficient level on state assessments in reading/language arts and math.



Diplomas will be issued based on the following criteria:


§  Diploma: Awarded to students who complete all general and course requirements with at least a 2.5 grade point average.


§  Diploma with Academic Distinction: Awarded to students who complete all general requirements for a diploma with a weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher and meet all rigorous course requirements.
